The Alias Career is a tool that allows students at the University of Florence to use a chosen name within the university context, in place of their legal name.
Activating the alias involves the assignment of a temporary identity, valid exclusively within the University, which coexists with the legal identity and remains active for the entire duration of the university career or until a request for modification is made.
The alias is always linked to the original academic career activated at the time of enrolment and is associated with the student ID number and, therefore, with the individual academic career. Consequently, once the degree has been awarded, the alias profile is not automatically transferred to a subsequent course of study: a new request to activate the alias career must be submitted.
The service is intended for students regularly enrolled at the University and in good standing with the payment of university fees who wish to activate the Alias Career.
No medical or legal documentation is required to request activation. It is sufficient to express your intention to start the procedure and take part in the scheduled informational meeting.
With the activation of the Alias Career, the chosen name is used in the University’s main internal services, including:
The legal name remains valid for:

The Administrative Contact Person will put you in touch with the Academic Tutor for the Alias Procedure, who will provide you with all the necessary information and, if needed, will support you throughout your university career.

No documentation is required either to request the meeting or to sign the agreement.
The alias career coexists with the original one as long as the actual academic career remains active, unless there is:
If the judgment recognizing gender change is issued after graduation, you may request that the change be recorded in order to obtain certificates aligned with your new personal details and a new diploma parchment (upon return of the previous one).
