Inclusion and Diversity Strategy

The Inclusion and Diversity Strategy represents the strategic reference point for the definition and development of the University of Florence’s inclusion, equity and wellbeing policies. It is positioned at the core of the University’s institutional action, with the aim of promoting a welcoming and fair academic environment that values differences as a resource for the entire academic community.

The Strategy is aimed at ensuring equal opportunities in access, participation, and academic success for all students, through an integrated approach that takes into account the diversity of individual conditions and needs. From this perspective, inclusion is not considered a sectoral field, but a cross-cutting dimension that permeates all University functions.

Areas of intervention include:

  • promotion of inclusion and accessibility
  • development of equal opportunities and gender equality policies
  • wellbeing of the university community
  • enhancement of diversity in all its forms.

These areas are addressed in a coordinated manner, recognizing the interconnections between the various factors that shape the university experience and promoting the adoption of integrated and coherent policies.

The Strategy also performs a cross-cutting coordination function, ensuring alignment between governing bodies, administrative structures, student services, and the academic community as a whole. This role enables the development of systemic actions capable of impacting both organizational and cultural dimensions, contributing to the innovation of practices and intervention models.

The inclusion and wellbeing policies promoted by the Strategy are fully integrated into the University Strategic Plan, of which they constitute a key component. Within this framework, inclusion, diversity, and wellbeing are recognized as enabling factors for the quality of teaching, research, and university life, as well as fundamental elements for strengthening the University’s social role.
